Winter Blues? Winter Blooms!

Flowerprints in Winter

STYLE SHEET · November 2016

Warm Winter Coats Need Not = Dark Colors

Let’s face it, our daughters still have the rest of their adult lives to wear dark winter coats.

How amazing was it when we were small and could absolutely get away with wearing the boldest, brightest colours?

We say: the perfect partner for those beautiful summer print dresses, like this season highlight from Gucci is a bright and super-warm down coat, like this pink Moncler one.

And while you’re at it…a fun metallic handbag shows your daughter has fully embraced the season’s signature look.

Combine Frozen Pastels to Bold Prints

Of course you can always combine your classic naturals (beige, nude) or classic darks (dark blue, black) with your daughter’s boldest flower prints…

This season, we recommend trying something new: frozen pastel hues such as this ‘ice blue’ dream of a coat from Yves Salomon. Or an ‘ice lavender’ colored turtleneck by Loro Piana.

And for those of you that are fully embracing fashion’s new celebration of opulence: why, of course you can team some fun silver or gold flowered sneakers, like these Dior classics, with thick wool tights to those bold-printed flower dresses!

For Little “Frozen” Princesses

The Rainbow-Onion-Principal

We all know the classic onion approach: First, pick one statement piece, such as this fantastic dress by Dolce & Gabbana. Then combine a turtleneck top, a warm vest, woolen tights, perhaps add a scarf and hat and voilà: we’re prepared for any weather.

Most often than not, we’ll pick classic colors for this onion approach – and that’s always a good, safe choice.

But what about taking a bright and colorful step outside the safety zone? The art of the rainbow-onion principal is to pick a few prominent colors out of your statement piece and then to find ‘onion-look’ pieces in the same colors. Or, for the very bold among you, in consciously selected contrasting colors.

To match with this Dolce & Gabbana dress made from warm, soft jersey, we first picked a fine turtleneck top in bluette. The dress has intricate flowers with sequins stitched onto its right sleeve. We couldn’t bear to cover these up, so we picked a warm vest in bright pink from Moncler. A matching handbag from Trussardi and a super-fun furball keychain from Regina in bluette complete this bright fall outfit…

…Perfect for a Saturday in town or your daughter’s next birthday party invite.
