Barbara Frères opened the doors to her first boutique in 1978, joining top fashion houses on Düsseldorf’s Königsallee, one of Europe’s most exclusive shopping streets.

Three locations and nearly 40 years later, her name is the ultimate in luxury children’s fashion. Inside Barbara Frères stores, you’ll find pieces from your favorite brands—Dior, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi—carefully curated into a collection just for kids.
But we don’t just carry the finest fashions; we are a fashion concierge for you and your family. How We Got Here

Barbara’s Story

I have always loved fashion and beautifully made clothes. Forty years ago I helped a friend run her children’s clothing boutique in Paris. While I had studied to be an engineer, nothing compared to my love of children’s fashion.

Outside of my friend’s boutique, no one in Europe was offering creative, quality clothing for children. I wanted to change that. After meeting my future husband—a Belgian working in Düsseldorf—I decided to open my own store in Germany.

Despite the inevitable fear that comes with opening a business (and after multiple banks turned me down for a loan), I sold out within my first three weeks. Not long after that, we sold dresses to the queen of Sweden her daughters.

I knew I had made the right decision.

This is the work of my—of our—life. My husband, Leo, eventually gave up his safe job in engineering to support my vision. After 40 years, I am even more devoted to it. Nothing fills me with more joy than watching a girl I dressed as a child come in with her own daughter—or granddaughter.
