The story of Minna Parikka
Follow the white rabbit to Minna’s shoe-filled wonderland
Minna Parikka is the heroine of her own fairytale, and what a story it is!
The daughter of a racing driver and a bank officer, the Finnish designer grew up with a passion for life, shoes and design. Having loved shoes all her young life, when she became 15 the teen-aged designer decided to create them.
She studied in England and brought what she learned back to Finland, starting the company 11 years ago in 2006.
Signature Style
The signature ‘bunny’ sneaker is a new icon – so distinctive, it’s hard to believe how young the brand is. Mina Parikka designs are as recognisable on the streets of Paris, London or New York – in fact everywhere they go,, excitement follows the perfectly-detailed footsteps.
The inspiration for the favourite was the image of a bunny hiding inside a sneaker, with his floppy ears and bobtail still peeking out! The imaginative yet simple design is adorable and cool, which is one of the reasons fans cannot get enough of the shoes.
Another reason is, simply, the quality of the products. Each shoe is designed in Finland crafted in Spain, using fine leathers and carefully chosen trims, such as soft faux fur bobtails. The designer works with a delightful palette of candy-fun colours, as well as simple colours like black or white, that allow the fun, feminine shapes to do the talking. Minna Parikka is all about attention to detail.
The stores, much like bunnies are popping up everywhere including Harrods in London, one of the world’s most prestigious retail locations. Each pop-up transports a dazzle of Minna Parikka’s unique magic to its location. The main store, in Helsinki is called ‘Universum’ and it’s a magical world as well as a shoe store. Now, Mina Parikka shoes are sold in over 100 stores worldwide. Barabra Freres is thrilled to become the latest boutique to enter Minna’s wonderland.
