A Vibrant Fusion
Stella Jean style is absolutely unique, combining Haitian artisan crafts of hand-painting and hand-embroidered fabrics with prime Italian tailoring. Strong, striking and beautiful; empowered femininity is central to the look. Much of the designer’s work is reminiscent of 1950s and 60s silhouettes, with tiny cinched-in waists colour-contrast waists, and full, feminine circle skirts.

The Story of…
Cultural identity inspires the 32-year-old, Haitian-Italian former model’s creations. She grew up in Italy and began a political science degree in Rome. Alongside her studies she worked as a model, and fashion soon became her main passion.
Jean had realised she wanted to use clothes to tell her own story. But as a model, not a designer, she had a tough road ahead. She didn’t have formal training nor drawing ability. What she did have was her ideas and something else unique; her story. She applied it to her clothes and after two rejected applications to prestigious Vogue Italia competition for new designers, she created pieces that were even more connected to her roots, and subsequently won!

A World Without Borders… Where Next?
Stella Jean’s passion for celebrating her heritage is what took her from aspiring to award-winning designer. Her debut line was Haitian-Italian, and she’s expressed interest in fashion fusions from other world cultures, too.
The label’s future looks exciting – Stella Jean plans to work with fabrics from India, Mongolia and South America and Japan. We can’t wait to see which direction this exciting young brand travels to next.
